Q1. Explain the importance of reproduction in organisms.

Ans. .Reproduction is very important as it ensures the continuation of similar kinds of individuals, generation after generation, it is essential for the continuation of a species

 

Q2. why do hen lays eggs?

Ans. Internal fertilization takes place in hens also. But, Soon after fertilization, the zygote

divides repeatedly and travels down the oviduct then many protective layers are formed around it.

 

Q3. What is Sexual reproduction?

Ans. Reproduction beginning from the fusion of male and female gametes is called sexual reproduction

 

Q4. Describe the the process of fertilization in human beings.

Ans. When sperms come in contact with an egg, one of the sperms may fuse with the egg. Such fusion of the egg and the sperm is called  fertilization

 

Q5. What is external fertilization?

Ans. Fertilization in which the fusion of a male and a female gamete takes place outside the body of the female is called external fertilization.

 

Q6. Where does development of embryo take place in external fertilization?

Ans. In animals which undergo external fertilization, development of the embryo takes place outside the female body. The embryos continue to grow within their egg coverings. After the embryos develop, the eggs hatch.

 

Q7. Give the difference between a zygote and a foetus

Ans. The zygote is fertilized egg, it divides repeatedly to give rise to a ball of cells, while foetus is multicellular and it has small body parts such as hands, legs, head, eyes, ears

 

Q8.  Define asexual reproduction. Describe two methods of asexual reproduction in animals.

Ans. Reproduction in which single parent is involved is called asexual reproduction, budding in hydra and binary fission in amoeba are asexual reproductive methods.

 

Q9. In which female reproductive organ does the embryo get embedded?

Ans. The embryo gets embedded in the wall of the uterus.

 

Q10. What is metamorphosis? Give examples.

Ans. The transformation of the larva into adult through drastic changes is called metamorphosis. Development of tadpole in frog and pupa into silkworm.

 

Q11. Does ovum appear to be a single cell? Which animal have largest egg?

Ans. The female gamete ova is a complete cell egg, they are very small in humans, Ostrich egg is  the largest one.

 

Q12. What purpose does the tail in a sperm serve?

Ans. Tail of Sperm helps it to swim in water as well as in uterus to reach the eggs.

 

Q13. Name the reproductive parts in humans ?

Ans. The male reproductive organs include a pair of testes, two sperm ducts and a penis and the female reproductive organs are a pair of ovaries, oviducts and uterus .

 

Q14. What do you understand by term oviparous and viviparous?

Ans. Those animals which lay eggs are called oviparous animals. Those animals which lay eggs are called oviparous animals

 

Q.15 What is cloning ? Name the animal first cloned, Is it beneficial for human ?

Ans. Cloning is the production of an exact copy of a cell, any other living part, or a complete organism. Doctors  cloned successfully a sheep named Dolly , it may help in repairing of organs ruptured in accidents.
