Hello students, here we are going to study a very important and interesting topic as, combustion and flame form chapter 6 of CBSE Class 8 Science.
Combustion:
What is Combustion?
A chemical process in which a substance reacts with oxygen to give off heat is called combustion.
The substance that undergoes combustion is said to be combustible. It is also called fuel.
The fuel may be solid, liquid or gas. Sometimes, light is also given off during combustion, either as a flame or as a glow.
The burning of any substance is defined as combustion.
There are mainly two(2) types of substances.
1) Combustible
2) Non-combustible
Combustible Substances:
Those substances which can be burnt are called combustible substances.
Non-combustible Substances:
Those substances which can not be brunt called non-combustible substances.
Conditions for Combustion
1) Fuel
2) Oxygen
3) Heat
We can also say that,
Combustion is defined as a chemical change in which both heat and light are produced at the same time in the presence of oxygen and the composition of the substance is also changed.
Example: Burning of coal, paper, candle, etc.
In a chemical change, the change that takes place cannot be reversed.
As we know that we need the energy to do our routine works. This energy is obtained in the form of food, burning fuels and electricity. This energy is used for cooking, as fuel in vehicles and also in industries.
We know that coal and petroleum are non-renewable because they take thousands of years to form. Also, energy is in high demand due to the increase in population and this need is fulfilled by using nonrenewable resources.
Due to this, nonrenewable resources are in danger as they can get exhausted. So, to overcome this problem, scientists are trying to discover other resources that can be useful in place of nonrenewable resources.
All the above-mentioned topics are described in an interactive and efficient manner so that the students could easily understand them.
